Sharpen your knowledge of literary devices, and expand your vocabulary through our practice of unusual and interesting synonyms for commonly used words. You’ll be able to easily identify examples of all the well-known literary devices. Recognising them will become simply second nature!

So, you know how to spot a metaphor or use of personification. You can tell your alliteration from your sibilance, no problem. Now, you need to know how to analyse these techniques. Our tuition will help students understand why writers use these devices, and what makes them so effective. This will also be useful for enhancing their creative writing skills.

Being able to put phrases into your own words is a crucial English skill. Our  students learn how to effectively paraphrase strange or unusual sentences/wording. Make your paraphrasing clear and accurate in this lesson.

The inference is a key English skill, and many writers rely on their readers’ ability to infer in order to make their writing creative and imaginative. They don’t want to have to tell you that a character is happy - we know this  by their actions, their words or the way they are described! You will learn how to read beyond the surface of the narrative, and to interpret the implicit meanings that lie beneath.

Drawing together the skills that have been developed over time we can now use these skills in combination in order to produce answers that are accurate and clear. This is a chance to put your new skills into practice!
